Policy update

Starting on January 2023. Minors that do not come with a legal parent or guardian must get verbal approval to receive care.

A parent or guardian must be at the first visit to complete forms. For each visit after, the parent or guardian can call from then on. Parents must speak with the care team for medical related questions.

The Center for Children and Women Opens in Southwest Houston

(Houston, TX) - Texas Children's Health Plan announces the opening of its second The Center for Children and Women location.  Located at 9700 Bissonnet in the Southwest Corporate Center, the approximately 65,000-square-foot facility provides comprehensive medical care for Texas Children's Health Plan members in the Southwest area of Houston. Through a partnership with Baylor College of Medicine, the patient and family focused medical home includes pediatricians, advanced nurse practitioners, OB/GYNs, certified nurse midwives, optometry, imaging, speech therapy, a laboratory, and an onsite pharmacy with dentistry added in the future.

"The Center for Children and Women model has exceeded our expectations at our Greenspoint location and we look forward to the same success at the Southwest location," he concluded.

The second Texas Children's Health Plan - The Center for Children and Women to open within the last year and a half, the first facility opened in the Greenspoint area in August of 2013 and has made a great impact on the surrounding community. Within the first year of operation, The Center for Children and Women - Greenspoint completed more than 27,000 appointments, had more than 260 births, and conducted several events such as breastfeeding, car seat safety and new parent classes to help educate the community.  It has also received National Committee for Quality Assurance recognition and was selected for a national pregnancy pilot program. The Center for Children and Women is dedicated to bringing the same care and commitment to residents in Southwest Houston.

"Our goal is to ensure that Texas Children's Health Plan members receive the same level of care as those with commercial health insurance," stated Tangula Taylor, The Center for Children and Women director of operations. "We are very proud of what we have accomplished in the year that the Greenspoint location has been open and we are uniquely positioned to serve the Medicaid and CHIP populations in Southwest Houston with the same commitment."

The Center for Children and Women is designed to ensure all patients receive proper care by providing extended hours to accommodate the busy schedules of members. Pediatric care is available 16 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and 10 hours a day on weekends. Obstetric care is available 12 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and six hours on Saturdays. Members will also have full support of other services such as behavioral health, social workers, care coordinators, nutritionists and many other services provided by a multidisciplinary team.  This health care model creates comprehensive care for the whole well-being of the patient.
