Dr. Erica (Ruger) Giwa is the Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology for The Center for Children and Women. She is a Houston native who decided early in life to pursue a career in medicine. After attending the Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions, she graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Her training then led her to Dallas, where she received her medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She then returned to Houston to complete an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas - Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. Dr. Giwa began her career at Plaza OB/GYN Associates near the Texas Medical Center, where she practiced for several years.
Her interest in providing quality health care to the underserved community led her to transition from private practice and join the team opening The Center for Children and Women in 2013. Dr. Giwa considers the opportunity to provide medical care for women in her community an absolute privilege. She truly enjoys educating her patients in order to enhance their awareness of health-related issues.
